What is DEN?
An app that works for you, not against you
DEN is a minimalist Android app designed for people who want a clean, fast, private digital experience. No unnecessary features. No dark patterns. No noise.
It's the kind of software you use and forget you're using — which is exactly the point.
How it started
Why DEN was built
There's a problem with most apps today: they're engineered for engagement, not utility. Notifications pull your attention on purpose. Interfaces are designed to maximize time spent. Features get added not because they help, but because they look impressive on a product page.
DEN started from a different question: what would an app look like if the only goal was to be genuinely useful? Not addictive. Not impressive. Just good.
The answer, it turns out, is a lot simpler than most software. Fewer features. Faster load times. A design that steps back and lets the user think. No sign-up walls. No account system holding your data hostage. Just an app that does what it says and nothing else.
That's DEN. It's not trying to be everything. It's trying to be exactly one thing, very well.
What we believe
Our values, stated plainly
Not a mission statement. Just the things we actually think about when building DEN.
Software should be honest
If we collect something, we tell you. If we don't need something, we don't take it. DEN operates on the principle that users deserve to know exactly what an app is doing on their device.
Speed is respect
When an app makes you wait, it's wasting your time. DEN is built with performance as a first-class concern, not an afterthought. Every millisecond of lag is a design failure we take seriously.
Less is genuinely more
It's easier to add features than to remove them. The discipline of subtraction — of not shipping something — is what keeps DEN focused. Every feature in DEN has earned its place.
Design should fade away
Great interface design is invisible. You notice it when it's bad, never when it's working. DEN's UI is designed to feel like it's not there — obvious, effortless, and out of your way.
Indie doesn't mean worse
DEN is made by a small team. That's a constraint that forces clarity. We can't throw features at every problem — we have to solve the right problem once, well. We think that produces better software.
Users aren't a product
We have no interest in selling your data, building profiles on your behavior, or serving you targeted advertisements. DEN is a piece of software, not a platform with a monetization funnel behind it.
What's next
The road ahead
DEN on Android is the first chapter. It's where we're building the foundation — the design system, the interaction model, the performance baseline — that everything else will grow from.
DEN for Windows is the next step. Not a port, not a stripped-down adaptation — a native desktop experience that respects the different context of a larger screen and a keyboard. The same values, expressed for a different environment.
Beyond that? We're not making promises we can't keep. What we can say is that everything we build will be built with the same care, the same restraint, and the same obsessive attention to whether it actually makes someone's day a little easier.
